Rose of Cimarron is the ninth studio album by the American country rock band Poco, released May 1976. Former Loggins & Messina sax/fiddle player Al Garth joined the band to record this album, but left shortly after due to internal conflicts. The title track became one of the band's signature songs, and was later recorded by Emmylou Harris on her album, Cimarron.

Rose of Cimarron" is a song by country rock band Poco being the title cut of their 1976 album release Rose of Cimarron: written by founding member Rusty Young, the song featured lead vocals by Paul Cotton and Timothy B. Schmit. Rose of Cimarron is the sobriquet given in American frontier lore to Rose Dunn, who at age 15 was romantically involved and an accomplice with the outlaw George Newcomb.

Lushly produced pop/rock, Rose of Cimarron hosts an array of sidemen, most notably Al Garth, formerly of Loggin & Messina, and keyboardist Steve Ferguson. The country influence is nearly abandoned except for the Rusty Young tune "Company's Comin'/Slow Poke. There are great tunes with great arrangements throughout.

Rose of the Cimarron was the sobriquet given in American frontier lore to Rose Dunn, who, at age 15, was romantically involved with the outlaw George Newcomb and acted as his accomplice. Rusty Young learned of Dunn through a brochure he chanced upon while in Oklahoma during Poco's 1973 tour.

'Rose of Cimarron' is a song I wrote after I picked up a brochure while Poco were on tour in Oklahoma in 1973," Young explained. It told a story of a woman who took in outlaws in the 1800s  . Rose Dunn was romantically involved with George "Bittercreek" Newcomb, who ran with fellow outlaw Bill Doolin's Wild Bunch gang. In 1893, the gang was caught in a gunfight with US Marshals in Ingalls, Oklahoma. Newcomb survived, but was later killed by the Dunn Brothers, y hunters who also happened to be Rose's brothers. Rose was accused of tipping them off to the gang's movements, a claim she and her brothers denied. More songs from Poco.
