Robert Nesta Marley, OM (6 February 1945 – 11 May 1981) was a Jamaican singer and songwriter. Considered one of the pioneers of reggae, his musical career was marked by blending elements of reggae, ska, and rocksteady, as well as forging a smooth and distinctive vocal and songwriting style. Marley's contributions to music increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide, and made him a global figure in popular culture for over a decade.
Bob Marley & The Wailers – Rastaman Vibration. After the long years of cult-hero status, Rastaman Vibration brought Bob Marley and the Wailers chart success at last. Released on 30 April 1976 it became the band’s first, and indeed only album to reach the US Top 10 (apart from the posthumous compilation, Legend) and made similar inroads into the UK chart, where it reached N. 5. And yet for all its commercial appeal and philosophical vigour, Rastaman Vibration was an album that delivered surprisingly few Marley classics and which got squeezed, creatively speaking, between the monumental achievements of Live! (1975) and Exodus (1977).

Bob Marley & the Wailers' greatest-hits album Legend is on course for the Billboard 200 chart's top 10 next week. Legend was recently reissued in a deluxe package for its 30th anniversary, though, notably, the reissue is not the version that is on sale for 99 cents. If Legend hits the top 10, it will mark Marley's second top 10 album, following 1976's Rastaman Vibration. It peaked at No. 8 on the July 4, 1976-dated chart. Marley's Legend album won't be the only exciting news in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 next week, as Maroon 5 are set for their second No. 1 album. Marley's Legend album does not appear on SoundScan's Building chart, as the list does not include catalog (older) albums. Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart.
