Born to make you cry. Kim Fowley. Kim Fowley (born 27 July 1939) is a male American record producer, impresario, songwriter and sometime recording artist. The son of Hollywood character actor Douglas Fowley ( Singin' In The Rain ), Kim's scattergun career in the music industry has been as varied and eccentric as it has been long. He has generally remained on the fringes of the mainstream industry, free to immerse himself in obscure and offbeat projects while occasionally stumbling on (and then happily milking) commercial success.

Kim Vincent Fowley (July 21, 1939 – January 15, 2015) was an American record producer, singer, songwriter and musician. He is best known for his role behind a string of novelty and cult pop rock singles in the 1960s, and for managing the Runaways in the 1970s. He has been described as "one of the most colorful characters in the annals of rock & roll," as well as "a shadowy cult figure well outside the margins of the mainstream.

Wasn't Born to Follow", also known as "I Wasn't Born to Follow", is a song written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King. Goffin wrote the lyrics and King provided the music. The song was first recorded by the Byrds on their 1968 album, The Notorious Byrd Brothers. King's short lived band the City also recorded the song for their 1968 album, Now That Everything's Been Said

Before Malcolm McLaren, there was Kim Fowley; professional scenemaker and svengali behind such early 1960s hits like "Alley Oop" and "Papa Oom Mow Mo. He went on to write and produce material for the Byrds and the Beach Boys as well as record his own less successful, albeit more anarchic, music. His connections to the anti-establishment had him mingling and working with Frank Zappa, Sky Saxon, Gram Parsons, and the Soft Machine. He continued being a divining rod for the underground up until the late '70s when he founded the Runaways

Biography by Jason Ankeny. One of rock's most infamous impresarios and managers, most notably for the '70s proto-punk band the Runaways. Imperial Records (Japan).
