Album · 1996 · 23 Songs. 32 - Walton: Façade Eugene Ormandy. Listen on Apple Music. By Sir William Walton - Vera Zorina, Eugene Ormandy & The Philadelphia Orchestra.

Vera Zorina (singer). William Walton (cricketer, born 1799). Another highly popular part of hers was La Périchole in the Jacques Offenbach's operetta. Vera Zorina (an ethnic Russian) is regarded as a founder of the "Gypsyan line" in Russian operetta. Sir William Turner Walton OM (29 March 1902 – 8 March 1983) was an English composer. During a sixty-year career, he wrote music in several classical genres and styles, from film scores to opera. His best-known works include Façade, the cantata Belshazzar's Feast, the Viola Concerto and the First Symphony. In middle age, Walton left Britain and set up home with his young wife Susana on the Italian island of Ischia. By this time, he had ceased to be regarded as a modernist, and some of his compositions of the 1950s were criticised as old-fashioned.

The poems and the music exist in several versions. Sitwell began to publish some of the Façade poems in 1918, in the literary magazine Wheels. In 1922 many of them were given an orchestral accompaniment by Walton, Sitwell's protégé

Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra deliver a gorgeous rendition of one of the most beautiful melodies of all time. One person found this helpful. Next is the collection's most recognizable composition, Ibert's "Escales," or as it is also known, "Ports of Call. The performance here by Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra is every bit the equal of Charles Munch's version on the magnificent RCA Living Stereo album featuring Saint-Saens' "Organ" Symphony. Next is the only non-Ormandy conducted piece, Faure's incidental piece "Pelleas et Melisande," performed by Andrew Davis and the New Philharmonia Orchestra
