Seeing that the New York duo Phantogram’s debut album is on Barsuk, one might assume they are gentle indie rockers or, since they are a male/female duo, maybe something along the lines of Mates of State. You might not guess that they are trip-hop revivalists. They are though, and Eyelid Movies sounds like nothing other than a lost Mono or Alpha record
Voices is the second studio album by American electronic rock duo Phantogram, released February 18, 2014 by Republic Records. It was produced by the band and John Hill. Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips contributed to the song "Never Going Home".
Eyelid Movies (LP, Album, Ltd). Ghostly International. At first I worried that my cartridge had been misaligned but the rest of my albums still sounded fine. I even thought that the album may have been overly statically charged, but again side B was fine and the later half of side A had quitter crackling sounds. I fiddled with the record for awhile but could not clear up the crackling.
Eyelid Movies, the debut LP from the self-proclaimed "street beat" duo Phantogram, is a lush and evocative thumper indebted to the sultry side of Moby's Play.

Eyelid Movies’ finest moments are when Barthel is allowed to fully utilise her voice. As Far As I Can See, the album’s standout track, is an incredible electro-soul slacker anthem which expertly blends cut-up brassy samples, thudding loops and exquisite, honeyed singing. Final track 10,000 Claps is as good, if completely different, and brilliantly incongruous – maudlin piano and a timbre more at home on a Sparklehorse record combine effectively with Barthel now affecting an alt-folk lilt.
