The Russian National Orchestra (Russian: Российский национальный оркестр) was founded in Moscow in 1990 by pianist and conductor Mikhail Pletnev. It was the first Russian orchestra to perform at the Apostolic Palace, Vatican and in Israel. The RNO's first recording (1991) was Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, Pathétique, released on Virgin Classics.

TITLE added to MP3 cart. Rachmaninov: Symphony N. ; Symphonic Dances. Russian National Orchestra and Mikhail Pletnev. Exclusive Prime pricing. This Rachmaninov Third Sym. is anothr chapter in his restrained, reticent traversal of Russian orchestral music (other chapters are devoted to equally bland Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev). He seems more interested in getting beautiful sounds from his Russian National Orch. than in forward motion, much less drama. I can understand why Pletnev wants to dissociate himself from the crass Soviet style that one heard too often, but he's deprived Rachmaninov of vitality along the way.

Album: Rachmaninov: Symphony N. In E Minor, Op. 27; "The Rock" Fantasy, Op. 7 (1994). Artists: Сергей Васильевич Рахманинов, Mikhail Pletnev, Russian National Orchestra.
