Night Moves ‎(LP, Album, Club). ST 511557, ST-511557.

Night Moves" is a song written by Bob Seger from the 1976 album Night Moves by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band. Released as a single in December 1976, it eventually reached number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart. The song was named by Rolling Stone as Best Single of the Year for 1977. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame named it one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll, Seger's only such selection.

Seger (bottom right) and the Silver Bullet Band in 1977. In 1974, Seger formed the Silver Bullet Band. Its original members were guitarist Drew Abbott, drummer and backing vocalist Charlie Allen Martin, keyboardist and backing vocalist Rick Manasa, bass guitarist Chris Campbell, and saxophonist and backing vocalist Alto Reed. Seger finally achieved his commercial breakthrough with his October 1976 album Night Moves. The title track, "Night Moves" was critically and commercially well-received, becoming a hit on the Billboard Pop Singles chart and receiving airplay on AOR radio.

Bob Seger recorded the bulk of Night Moves before Live Bullet brought him his first genuine success, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that it's similar in spirit to the introspective Beautiful Loser, even if it rocks harder and longer. Throughout much of the album, he's coming to grips with being on the other side of 30 and still rocking. Stylistically, there's not much change since Beautiful Loser, but the difference is that Seger and his Silver Bullet Band - who turn in their first studio album here - sound intense and ferocious, and the songs are subtly varied.

The song that marked the transition from a local phenomenon in Michigan to a national rock'n'roll figure. It had a huge success and won a huge acclaim by critics and fans, winning Platinum status (x6). Night Moves" Track Info. Written By Bob Seger. Release Date December 12, 1976.

Bob Seger's fastidious approach to studio production pays dividends here. Well written, nicely paced and impeccably delivered, this album is justifiably considered by the numbers alone his best work. Old time rock and roll aside, this album harbours a more introspective approach that is readily accessable and enjoyable. Worth a spin.
