Every city should have a radio show as fresh and intelligent as Morning Becomes Eclectic from KCRW in Santa Monica. Unencumbered by narrow genre classifications, the show has built up an audience for left-of-center singer-songwriters, art-pop bands, world beatniks, jazz fusionists, and hip-hoppers. All are featured on this compilation of live, on-air performances

KCRW dropped all program names except Morning Becomes Eclectic and Strictly Jazz in 2008. Three of the station's previous music directors currently have programs on the air at KCRW. Local and regional touring artists can send recordings to KCRW for consideration of airplay. KCRW airs Santa Monica City Council meetings live when they are held. Because of the nature of the repeater network, Santa Monica City Council meetings can be heard throughout the Southern California region reaching out to approximately 150 mi (240 km). Before its current host, Evan Kleiman, took over as host, the KCRW show Good Food was parodied on Saturday Night.

When acclaimed UK indie band Lush announced its reunion last year, we immediately reached out to have the band on Morning Becomes Eclectic. Now, we will host its first live US radio performance in 20 years! Technical Support: Ray Guarna – Recording Engineer Pete Bartlett – Band Engineer Eric Drachman – Sound Intern Rob LaFond, Grant Buckerfield, Kashi McDaniels - Web Video Producers.

s KCRW, which is currently on its third volume of Rare On Air, enjoys probably the highest-profile recorded legacy: The artists on Volume 3 include everyone from current chart-toppers (The Wallflowers, Fiona Apple) to hipster buzz bands (Ben Folds Five, Guided By Voices, Stereolab) to, well, James Taylor  . Lots of radio stations bring musicians into the studio for live-on-air promotions, and some of them even issue CD compilations documenting some of those performances.
