New Mother is the debut studio album by American folk music act, Angels of Light. It was released on April 5, 1999 via frontman Michael Gira's own record label Young God Records, immediately after Michael Gira disbanded his previous band, Swans. The album features contributions from various musicians, including violinist Hahn Rowe, Rasputina band cellist Julia Kent, drummer Thor Harris, composer Joe McGinty and ex-Swans members Bill Rieflin, Phil Puleo and Bill Bronson.

Akron/Family & Angels of Light is a split album between New York band Akron/Family and Michael Gira's band Angels of Light. It was released on November 8, 2005, via Gira's own record label, Young God Records. The album features seven original songs by Akron/Family and three original songs by Angels of Light, plus a version of "Mother/Father" (originally performed by Gira's former group Swans, from the album, The Great Annihilator) and a cover of Bob Dylan's "I Pity the Poor Immigrant".

New Mother was the first post-Swans album of songs from Michael Gira. It was released in 1999. The Angels of Light is the new band led by Michael Gira, formerly of SWANS. With The Angels of Light, Gira returns to vocal based songs. And it's so good to hear Gira's voice and words again!

This song is by The Angels of Light and appears on the album New Mother (1999). And you're lazySo there's nothing that can stop you nowFrom sleepingAnd your breathing in a silence that will drug you nowSo completelyThat you're drowning in a liquid that is glowing with strange substanceAnd your mind will show you pictures of your body. And you're rising to the surface of awarenessThat's unconsciousAnd you're dreamingOf real violenceWith no consequence,With no meaning.

Angels Of Light's second album opens with the melodious Evangeline which is grave, somber and simultaneously uplifting somehow. Michael Gira's second "Angels Of Light" album returns to the same organic roots of its predecessor, but this time the songs are longer and more sprawling without an increase in structural complexity. Pretty much as close as you could get to a Swans Unplugged album, "How I Loved You" is by no means a poor or substandard offering, but it does not achieve the compact and distilled beauty unveiled so magnificently on "New Mother"

Mother, come, come for me. The red velvet scar On your white inner thigh Shows the beautiful colors Of the scars in your mind But I am the reason Your legs are apart. Mother, come into my heart. Your voice is the steel blade Dissecting my cloud This song is my prayer To the shape of your mouth You are the reason I've stayed on this earth. Mother, sing me into my birth. Song For Nico" Track Info. Written By Michael Gira. Release Date March 27, 2001. How I Loved You Angels of Light.

I first knew I liked Angels of Light's Sing "Other People" when my Busch Light-swigging, Kenny Chesney-worshipping ex-roommate- who hadn't once, in six months, said a word about any of the music I played constantly during our time together- mistook the singer for Johnny Cash. Fans of Everything Is Good Here/Please Come Home, the Angels' tumultuous 2003 stab at lysergic goth-folk, shouldn't be faulted for thinking they're hearing a different band altogether. Part of this metamorphosis can be attributed to the assistance of fellow Young God signees Akron/Family, whose self-titled debut is seeing contemporaneous release.

My copy is a green CD with "Angels of Light" written around the inner circle (without the "The"), until noticing this I had thought I had the regular US CD copy. The back of the CD doesn't match the Russian version, does anyone know what pressing I have?
E: Took this to a store, collection is now 100% Gira free
I would recommend this to anyone who might approximate the reception.Post culmination of a brilliant full career which will not appeal to half of these recipients, the American equivalent of New European/Neofolk, the reinvention of a mindstream mid-life while not betraying enslaving relativities - I should maybe just shut up and say: "listen to this record." Never mind the other releases by this artist, never mind the history behind it in Swans, never mind American neofolk - just listen to this record. I don't think you will be disappointed.
