Sur la Mer is the thirteenth album released by The Moody Blues, released in 1988. It features the hit single "I Know You're Out There Somewhere", a sequel to their 1986 hit "Your Wildest Dreams". Much of the music on this album would fit in the "synthpop" genre, though it does bear more rock and acoustic influences than its predecessor. Flautist and vocalist Ray Thomas did not appear on this album; although he remained a member of the band at the time during which it was recorded.

Though this 1988 recording starts out with a song that rightfully stands with their best work, the rest of the album doesn't live up to that high standard. I Know You're out There Somewhere" (a thematic extension of the 1986 hit "Your Wildest Dreams") is lyrically and musically superior in all aspects; fine textured keyboards from Patrick Moraz are featured in the middle of the song. However, the rest of the album is mostly inconsequential material that simply doesn't grab the listener. Part of the problem lies in the fact that Justin Hayward and John Lodge.

No More Lies (The Moody Blues song). No More Lies" is the second single released from The Moody Blues 1988 album Sur la Mer. As a single, it charted at on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1988. Like the album's previous single, "I Know You're Out There Somewhere," "No More Lies" was also written by Justin Hayward. A music video was also produced for "No More Lies. Justin Hayward: acoustic guitar, vocals. John Lodge: bass guitar. Patrick Moraz: keyboards. Graeme Edge: drums, percussion.

Sur la mer" is very much a Hayward and Lodge album. Patrick Moraz is still present, but his contribution is to the overall sound, with virtually nothing up front at all from him. The quality of the tracks is generally very good. The lead track, "I know you're out there somewhere" mirrors the gently rocking opening tracks to most of their albums, and stands as a classic MB song. While in the 80s with rare exceptions classic prog-rock bands were hibernating or adhering to some poisonous trend, the MOODY BLUES continued to make their work, not really progressive but still neat, audible, pleasant. Sur La Mer' was another step in the journey of this magnificent band, although only small tints of prog may be gathered: keyboard effects, exquisite tunes, harmonic vocals, but check out: no concessions to the last fashion, to the ephemeral and short-lived, simply they were in their mood.

The sessions for "Sur La Mer" did not go without incident, mainly that Ray Thomas was never asked to the studio to record or write any material at all for this album. Some sources say the trouble started with "The Other Side of Life" and were exasperated by "Sur La Mer", other sources say it began with "Sur La Mer". Breaking Point: I guess the Moody Blues were asked to write a song for a thriller movie and wrote this tune. Then when they saw the film they backed out of the deal. The Moodies go darker in this tune by Hayward and Lodge, which is really about paranoia.
