Parables for Wooden Ears was the first studio album released by the Australian band Powderfinger. It was released on 18 July 1994 by Polydor Records, after recording at the Metropolis Studios in Melbourne during February 1994. The album was received poorly and failed to chart or improve Powderfinger's platform despite the respectable success of its predecessor, Transfusion. Critics complained about its poor imitation of Americana, as well as its overuse of complex riffs.

Album opener Walking Stick is a dirty ol' track doing it's best to shine above some horrendously bad lyrics. And it goes on like this. Musically though, it's quite a mature track and another one that flourishes with patience. They saved the best for last though, and album highlight is definitely closer Save Your Skin

Album Parables for Wooden Ears. I'll take the lead you follow me Come and relieve the friends that I keep They're sick of me Small minded creed blisters and weeps Swallow the shit that jealousy feeds And choke on it.

Album Parables for Wooden Ears. Fathers' Pyramid Lyrics. Born into peace Born into ignorance My family gave me strength Bonding my brothers. And the war was her enemy Shed her mother's tears Broke her mother's heart Broke their feeble bond. And I'm stripped from my love Could you find me a cure Stone by stone I build For my fathers'. Born into peace Grown to respect the other. My religion gave me strength More than a bond. And the law was her enemy Bred her brother's fears Sparked his call to arms To force himself upon
