Live, released in 2001. Songs, Tracks Listing. DISC-1 1 Sept 1971 Live at "Stomping Encore" Gaelic Park, NY THE STRATASPHERE VS THE SPECTRE 1 The Barbarian (5:37) 2 Take A Pebble/Piano Variations/Take A Pebble (Conclusion) (20:07) 3 Tarkus: Eruption/Stone Of s/Manticore/The us (25:30). 4 photocopied 'bootleg' album covers with direct CD transfers of the albums (ie. could have had shows compressed into single disks) with each CD in a black white paper cover. Be careful with the disks. The back of the poster has a bit of a writeup on the four shows in the set. A particularly interesting note is made on the first show of the set.
This set and its companion, the eight-CD volume two, display all the strengths that made Emerson, Lake & Palmer one of the world's most popular bands during the '70s, and the weakness that comes with a trio's attempt to play complicated music. Keith Emerson was a virtuoso keyboard player, Greg Lake supplied a pleasant voice and flair for writing melodic songs, and Carl Palmer played drums as though he would perish if he stopped. But the group lacked the depth of fellow progressive rock bands, such as Yes and King Crimson. The four inner sleeves retain their original bootleg appearance.
Casual fans, of course, will have realized long ago that the Manticore Vaults sets are probably not for them.

These two releases are proof positive that Emerson Lake and Palmer are the ultimate musical equivalent of LSD - they take you to heaven or hell, and there's absolutely no halfway house. All the usual suspects are here, from the aforementioned mythical beast "Tarkus" to their legendary renditions of bona fide classical pieces such as "Pictures At An Exhibition" and Aaron Copland's "Hoedown" which, under Emerson's nimble fingers, tore down the house at the beginning of every gig. While the sound - mainly taken from audience tapes - is invariably rough, the sheer excitement of a band at its peak and conquering the colonies is undeniable.

Four is a jazz related rock music live album recording by EMERSON LAKE AND PALMER released in 2006 on CD, LP/Vinyl and/or cassette.
Volume IV Live From The Manticore Vaults is aesthetically on par with volumes I - III. Once again I refer you to Dick's Picks and The King Crimson Collectors Club. ELP has just a different way of releasing its "bootleg" stuff. Greg Lake's voice may be shot to hell; Keith Emerson may be contemplating recording with The Nice; Carl Palmer seems to be the 'active member' currently. There was a time when ELP were where it was "a.
