The Who Sell Out is the third studio album by the British rock band the Who. It was released on 15 December 1967 by Track Records in the UK and Decca Records in the US. A concept album, The Who Sell Out is structured as a collection of unrelated songs interspersed with fake commercials and public service announcements. The album purports to be a broadcast by pirate radio station Radio London.

For reasons that remain somewhat ill defined, the concept wasn't quite driven to completion, breaking down around the middle of side two (on the original vinyl configuration). Nonetheless, on strictly musical merits, it's a terrific set of songs that ultimately stands as one of the group's greatest achievements

The Who Sell Out was originally released as Track 612 002 (mono), 613 002 (stereo) on December 16, 1967. It reached in the . as Decca DL 4950 (mono), DL 74950 (stereo) on January 6, 1968, it reached Mono and stereo versions had a different guitar track. The Who are trying to keep up with the Zeitgeist, continuing the psychedelic theme they started playing with on "A Quick One", but I don't don't think you can successfully achieve a psychedelic sound without really being turned onto the whole psychedelic thing, and on this album, although you have some good musicianship and some amusing song writing, there's some.

In the US The Who Sell Out was released on 6 January 1968 (Decca DL 4950, DL 74950 ) followed by the CD (MCA MCAD-31332) in the 1980s and remastered CD (MCAD-11268) in 1995. Disc Two consisted of the original 13 tracks in mono plus ten bonus tracks and out-takes

A concept album, The Who Sell Out is structured as a collection of unrelated songs interspersed with fake commercials and public service announcements. The Who Sell Out has received widespread acclaim from critics, some of whom viewed it as the Who's best record. It has also frequently been featured on all-time lists of the best albums, including Rolling Stone magazine's " 500 Greatest Albums of All Time ", on which it ranked 113th.

You could call the album cover for The Who Sell Out (1967) tongue-in-cheek, but that would imply some sort of subtlety on behalf of the British rockers. The Who may have been the ultimate "stick it to the man" band of the 1960s, even when they enjoyed substantial commercial success. The problem with being an anti-corporate band that's immensely popular, though, is that over time your rebellious anti-whatever attitude is eventually bought and sold, turned into a brand  . That said, the design of the cover is a nice little nod to the idea of selling out and how, in many ways, it's an unavoidable part of being in the music industry. blah blah blah, The Dark Knight.

i got this one years ago, its an official release, im not sure how an independent french label got the rights to release this back in 1974 but obviously they did, this has a nice laminated sleeve and was released on triumph records, i do not see this one pop up to often and since this was released some 45 years ago its hard to say how many where pressed, it may have been a promo type of thing as the who did some shows in france & the uk in football stadiums that year as the who did not do many dates in 1974 due to the filming of tommy.
