The Rescue is the fourth studio album by American post-rock band Explosions in the Sky. Written, recorded and mastered in two weeks in band member Michael James's house in Austin, Texas, The Rescue is a concept album inspired by an experience the band had while touring. The album was recorded and mixed in just two weeks. The band wrote no new material for this album prior, and then spent eight straight days writing and finishing a song each day. The rest of the two weeks was spent mixing
For The Rescue, Explosions in the Sky recorded eight songs in eight days, creating a slightly disconnected affair, with the band in an atypically casual, carefree mood. Freeing themselves from the constraints of a normal cohesive thematic unit, they branch out, experimenting with new instruments, voices, and moods.
The label issued one CD from each artist involved in the project, which ran from 1999 until 2015. A large number of the artists involved have been signed to Temporary Residence for releases outside of the series (Eluvium, Explosions in the Sky, Mono) whilst some haven't had any other releases on the label (Mogwai, Songs: Ohia), and some artists on Temporary Residence have not released anything for the series.

True to its title, The Wilderness explores the infinite unknown, utilizing several of the band’s own definitions of space" (outer space, mental space, physical geography of space) as compositional tools. It is an album where shoegaze, electronic experimentation, punk damaged dub, noise, and ambient folk somehow coexist without a hint of contrivance-and cohere into some of the most memorable and listenable moments of the band’s expansive body of work- proper studio albums and major motion picture soundtracks alike.
EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY have become one of the most recognized bands in the post-rock movement. Like most bands within their style, their music is slow and epic (despite also featuring a distinctly more upbeat feel than GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR or MOGWAI). Although 2001's "Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever" gained them some attention, 2003's "Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place" was a breakthrough of sorts, increasing their popularity quite considerably.

Distributed locally on CD-Rs, the album earned Explosions in the Sky a small local following and rehearsal footage found its way onto the feature film Cicadas, which later won an Austin Film Festival award. Shortly after, the band signed with Temporary Residence Limited after fellow Austin band The American Analog Set submitted an Explosions in the Sky demo. The post rock quartet Explosions In the Sky have been touring for over fifteen years and in this time they have become masterful instrumentalists due to the ability to continuously tweak and develop a live show whilst constantly testing out new material and differentiation with the baying crowds that continue to flock to their stage.
