With Darlene Love and the Blossoms doing honors as the '. ettes' and Al turning spot on the money sound bite impressions of Dick Dale, the Ventures, and old Duane himself, the combination was cool enough to get the 45 up to mid chart status in 1963. Certainly enough red vinyl biscuits went out the door for an album to be forthcoming, loaded with surf music classics

There are two guitarists called Al Casey: A jazz guitarist from Kentucky known mostly for his work with Fats Waller. A rock & roll guitarist from the 60s known mostly for his work with Duane Eddy and Sandford Clark. Albert Aloysius Casey (September 15, 1915 – September 11, 2005) known professionally as Al Casey, was an African-American swing guitarist who played with Fats Waller on some of his famous recordings. The backup vocal group was even named The K-C-Ettes. Recorded in the style of Duane Eddy's Dance with the Guitar Man, Surfin Hootenanny featured Al mimicking the styles of Dick Dale, The Ventures, and Duane Eddy. The Surfin Hootenanny album is somewhat of a classic among surf and rock and roll fans. Later he was a featured guitarist on the Exotic Guitars series of albums, and he continued recording until a few years before his death.

The Surfin' Hootenanny album featured Al mimicking the styles of Dick Dale, the Ventures, and Duane Eddy. Drummer Hal Blaine and organist Leon Russell played on many of these recordings; the backup vocal group, named as the K-C-Ettes, were in fact the Blossoms. The small independent label he recorded for, Stacy Records, folded in 1964. Later he was a featured guitarist on the "Exotic Guitars" series of albums on the Ranwood Records label.
