Winwood (still known as "Stevie" Winwood then) joined The Spencer Davis Group at the age of 14, along with his elder brother Muff, who later had success as a record producer, after Davis saw them at a Birmingham pub called the Golden Eagle, performing as the Muffy Wood Jazz Band. In 1994, Capaldi and Winwood reunited Traffic for a new album, Far From Home, and a tour, including a performance at Woodstock '94 Festival In 1995 and 1996, Winwood released Reach for the Light for the animated film Balto. Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush".

Traffic Avec Stevie Winwood from Traffic (1967) (LP).
I walked through a field That just wasnt real Where 100 tin soldiers Would shoot at my shoulder And all that I knew The hole in my shoe Was letting in water (letting in water). I climbed on the back of a giant albatross Which flew through a crack in the cloud To a place where happiness reigned all year round Where music played ever so loudly). I started to fall And suddenly woke And the dew on the grass It stuck to my coat And all that I knew The hole in my shoe Was letting in water (letting in water).
After Winwood left the Spencer Davis Group in April 1967, the quartet formed Traffic. Soon thereafter, they rented a cottage near the rural village of Aston Tirrold, Berkshire to write and rehearse new music. Traffic signed to Island Records label and their debut single "Paper Sun" became a UK hit in mid-1967. This is a live version of 'Hole in My Shoe' sung by writer Dave Mason. The studio version of this song has been one of my most popular slideshow videos, so I thought I would upload this rarely performed live version. In fact it erks me that this song appears to have contributed to the alienation of writer Dave Mason from the rest of group and to his departure, as it is my favourite Traffic song. 1971), which was a Top 10 American album athough did not chart in the UK. Sadly Chris Wood died in 1983 and Jim Capaldi in 2005.
Hole In My Shoe captured the psychedelic atmosphere of 1967 with as much impact as The Pink Floyd's See Emily Play although this song was to signal the beginning of the end for the Mason involvement in the group as the other three members were eager to get away from pop and into more absorbing material. The album also showed Jim and Dave Mason writing as separate entities and indicated a clash of song writing styles with Mason's commercial compositions contrasting alongside the more jazz and blues or soul influenced songs of the other group members.
