Common Hoax. mikeroyshow Trevor is amazing. Loved all the Youth Lagoon stuff, but this album is head and shoulders above all that. something287 Awesome experiments with sound and texture and odd instrumentation. Beautiful and dark, less like David Lynch music, more like David Lynch film.
Mulberry Violence isn’t a letdown because it doesn’t live up to expectations of what a Trevor Powers album is supposed to sound like. It’s a letdown because an immensely talented and creative spirit is struggling to let his instincts speak for themselves. Mulberry Violence is a sweet spot in the Adult Lagoon. Trevor Powers has grown, and shed, and taken on new, and morphed, and in the while has crafted something that despite its departure from the familiar YL sound, very much still feels like him and his music. 6mo. thefinschise199. 65. Trevor Powers on this album throws off every Youth Lagoon fan by cranking the volume up to outrageous new levels. It’s an album fueled by heavily-drenched vocals and blasts of synths and gnarly production that would make Trent Reznor blush. But this isn’t a unique sound at all sadly.

Two years later, after releasing three albums of skewed, but grandiose and intimate, lo-fi indie psych-pop under the moniker, he returned with the course-corrective Mulberry Violence
