Live from Electron 2014, we follow Detroit's Big Daddy from disco to deep house. The good, the bad and the deep: Rick Wade. There's been a lot of talk about deepness lately in the world of electronic music, but hardly any attention paid to some of the originators of the sound. RA's Thomas D. Cox recently caught up with one of the most k Wade-to talk Theo Parrish, Kenny Dixon, J. booty bass and anime.
Published /. 24 Apr 2014. From the mid-'90s to the present, Rick Wade has been the go-to guy for a certain sort of sprawling house track-the kind of late-night groove that could stretch on forever. It's a sound rooted in the funk, soul and disco records he heard as a kid in Michigan, but the mark of Detroit, where he relocated as a college student and has called home since, is indelible. Along with Kenny Dixon J. Theo Parrish and Mike Huckaby, his coworker at the seminal shop Record Time, he's made Detroit famous for house as well as techno.
Rick Wade was born in small-town western Michigan, less than an hour from Chicago's South Side. In the mid 1980s while studying at the University of Michigan, Wade gained his first gigs spinning deep underground house at the Nectarine Ballroom, the venue where Jeff Mills was also making his name, for techno rather than for house. Simultaneously, Wade maintained a successful mix show on WCBN named "Journey To The Land Of House". It was a huge success, as were his subsequent gigs at clubs in and around Detroit
Resident Advisor - Music. E. 96 Rick Wade - 2014. Live from Electron 2014, we follow Detroit's Big Daddy from disco to deep house. Popout Listen on the new Podbay. fm neither hosts nor alters podcast files.
The Detroit Fury EP is classic Rick Wade: deep, driving, emotional and full of soul. TIPP! Legend is a word that is overused and often misused but it is truly the only one to describe the latest most-welcome addition to the Hizou Music family, the one and only Rick Wade. The deep house pioneer from small-town Michigan – less than an hour from Chicago’s South Side – in truth needs little introduction thanks to celebrated releases on labels such as Trackmode, Moods & Grooves and, of course, his own much-lauded Harmonie Park imprint.
