Nocturnes (L. 91), sometimes Trois Nocturnes or Three Nocturnes, is an orchestral composition in three movements by the French composer Claude Debussy. It was completed on 15 December 1899. Nocturnes may be connected to two earlier works, neither of which was ever finished, and the scores to both of which are lost. In 1892 the composer wrote that he was nearly finished with Trois Scènes au Crépuscule ("Three Twilight Scenes"), an orchestral triptych after poems by Henri de Régnier.

Claude Debussy's music is, if nothing else, original. Perhaps that is why Leopold Stokowski paid so much attention to his work. Stokowski's uncanny ability to take the beautiful and make it something spectacular is on full display in this album. All of the pieces offered on this album are, for the most part, standard Debussy fare, but Stokowski was never one for standard. This album proves once more the feathered lyricism Stoky confered claude Debussy. the prelude (with Julius Baker as soloist)is just one step behind the famous version of Michael Tilson Thomas at the front of the . The rest of the CD is simply pure acoustic gold. Stoky makes a full rounded- performance through the inner transparency and organical fluidity he gives the orchestral mass.

This recording of Debussy's classic orchestral works was made in 1954 with the Orchestre National de France under Désiré-Emile Inghelbrecht. It merits special mention not only for its unclouded approach to Debussy's sonic sensations, but also because the young Inghelbrecht was on close personal terms with the composer himself.
