The Magic of Christmas is a 1960 album by Nat King Cole, arranged and conducted by Ralph Carmichael. This was Cole's only full album of Christmas songs, although he had recorded several holiday singles earlier in his career. One of these, "The Christmas Song", originally recorded in 1946, was re-recorded for the 1961 album The Nat King Cole Story.

The Nat King Cole Trio first recorded the song in spring 1946. Cole again recorded the song in 1953, using the same arrangement with a full orchestra arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle, and once more in 1961, in a stereophonic version with another full orchestra arranged and conducted by Ralph Carmichael. The Christmas Song" has been covered by numerous artists from a wide variety of genres. It has charted by the following: Christina Aguilera on the 2000 album, My Kind of Christmas: No. 18 on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart; No. 22 on the Canadian RPM Top 100 Singles chart.

I hate Christmas music but love Nat King Cole. This is the only Christmas album I can listen to over and over 12 months per year. One person found this helpful. Unfortunately I almost feel for him now in listening to a few of these tracks

Singing traditional Christmas songs with dignity and feeling, this Nat King Cole holiday album gloriously captures the spirit of the season. Without fireworks, improvisations, catchy rhythms, or unusual variations, Cole gives us songs full of love in his relaxed and unpretentious style. The Christmas Song written by Mel Torme has always been Cole’s biggest Christmas hit, beautifully sung to an accompaniment of piano and strings. O Holy Night, with a 27-string orchestra, maintains its sense of quiet awe, instead of becoming loudly triumphant (as it is in many other recordings), while Adeste Fidelis, sung partly in Latin, speaks to the listener on a personal level and invites him/her to come, let us adore him, instead of demanding it.
