And then it came to me. I said to Gary, ‘Why don’t we do a blues album?’ Flashback to Belfast 1966; Gary Moore, then still only 14, had been making a name for himself as a guitar prodigy on the Belfast beat scene. But Moore soon ditched that plan and turned his mind to building a team of musicians under his own name. Graham Lilley, Gary’s then guitar technician, recalls conversations about including another guitarist in the line-up, with Snowy White’s name being mentioned. Inside Virgin, the conversation initially focused on this being a side project – in other words, not an album that would count as part of Gary’s contracted commitments.
GUITAR WORLD: Congrats on Black Country Communion's new live album, which sounds incredible, stating with that opening bass riff in "Black Country. We've also heard reports that a new studio album is expected later this year. Am I the man who killed Deep Purple? I don’t think so. I think every band from that era, even if you look at Led Zeppelin, if you look at their first four albums, they’re extremely different from one another, and I’ve never made the same album twice. There are other artists who I shan’t mention - all good friends of mine - who have this one-dimensional sound, and it really works for them. Then I started piano, then my mum bought me a plastic Elvis Presley guitar when I was about 12, which was unplayable. But I did like the feel of a guitar. When the radio announcer said who it was, she said, Yes, it was Gary Moore.

Gary Moore was born on April 4, 1952, in Belfast, Ireland. During the ‘60s, Moore became interested in guitar upon discovering such blues-rock masters as Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and Fleetwood Mac's Peter Green. Moore’s picking speed and his vibrato was equal to that of Green and Clapton. Though Moore was often seen playing a Fiesta Red 1961 Strat, his signature sound is more closely associated with his 1959 Les Paul Standard. Moore would begin a song using the warm tone of his Les Paul’s neck pickup, then switch over to the bridge pickup for his solos to achieve a more aggressive and biting sound.
