Carmen Amaya - Sabicas - Queen Of The Gypsies LP EX- 1955 US Decca DL9816 LISTEN. As the album starts with the promising Daybreak, it quickly sinks with the mediocre Shady Lady and a no-better High Time (a rare track written by Glascock), it is clear that the group had said everything it had to say on the previous albums. The rest of the first side slides smoothly along, unremarkable and almost unnoticed, even if Joy is rather good. The flipside does start on the best (longest and title) track of the album; it is also the more dramatic one, with plenty of instrumental interplay, rhythm changes and plenty of energy

Carmen Amaya (2 November 1918 – 19 November 1963) was a Spanish Romani flamenco dancer and singer, born in the Somorrostro district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. She has been called "the greatest Spanish Romani dancer of her generation" and "the most extraordinary personality of all time in flamenco dance. She was the first female flamenco dancer to master footwork previously reserved for the best male dancers, due to its speed and intensity

Amaya and Sabicas toured together several times. Sabicas later settled in New York City in the United States where he formed a life-long friendship and business association with classical guitarist Rolando Valdés-Blain. He did not return to his native Spain until 1967. Sabicas was instrumental in the introduction of flamenco to audiences outside of Spain and the Spanish-speaking world  . 1959 Queen of the Gypsies (with Carmen Amaya. MP3 The Best of Carmen Amaya). 1959 Serenata Andaluza (with group).
