Antisocialites is the second album from Alvvays, released on September 8, 2017. While not itself a word antisocialite is meant to be the opposite of the word socialite which is defined as a person who is well known in fashionable society and is fond of social activities. Antisocialites Q&A.

The band’s second album, Antisocialites, conspicuously lacks an Archie, whether musically or romantically, but it’s another batch of thoroughly accomplished songs. Alvvays have sharpened their focus without losing sight of themselves. Rankin, who grew up on the East Coast of Nova Scotia as part of a famous family of Celtic folk musicians, certainly wasn’t brought up on the NME cassette compilation that became synonymous with winsome, ’60s-dappled guitar pop. She and Alvvays guitarist Alec O’Hanley bonded over Scotland’s C86-descended power-pop heroes Teenage Fanclub, but both understandably.

Molly Rankin’s pipes are pure 60s pop on Not My Baby, and her songwriting wit sparkles throughout this nuanced break-up album.

Canadian Indie Pop masters "Alvvays" are finally back with their sophomore LP. Dylan Schellenberg. Dylan Schellenberg Oct 5, 2017. After a hiatus of three years, Alvvays is back with their new album, titled Antisocialites. Containing a much more elevated production value than their 2014 release, Alvvays manage to produce an incredibly polished and clean sounding indie pop album. Alvvays' 2014 S/T was a cute and warm summer excursion. The album itself is rather immature, with much of the songwriting and structures being essentially the same.

Not that their self-titled debut record flopped, mind you; au contraire, it fits quite snugly in the wash of jangle pop records that have overtaken a large sect of indie pop over the past few years.

Back in 2014, Alvvays released their self-titled debut album, featuring Archie, Marry Me. That song went on to become one of the most memorable indie-pop songs of that summer, going to No. 1 on the American College Radio chart and even being covered by Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard. That first album encapsulates the woes of coming to terms with adulthood. With anthemic songs that serve as a perfect antidote for heartache, it’s no surprise that the group's sophomore album, Antisocialites, out Friday (Sept. 8) on Polyvinyl, carries a breakup theme.

Courtesy of the artist. It's hard not to think back to those intimate shades between love and heartache in "Archie" when hearing where Alvvays picks up on its new album, Antisocialites. Whether autobiographical or fictional, the album's lead track "In Undertow" represents a darker spiritual sequel. Retracing her steps after a breakup, Rankin opens, "You find a wave and try to hold on for as long as you can, You made a mistake you'd like to erase and I understand," hinting at the fissures that grew too deep to mend.
