Tangerine Dream – Hyperborea. Label: Virgin – CDV 2292. This is the first CD release of this album. There exists another version, identical in almost every way but with a Mould SID code on the matrix hub, pointing to a post 1993 reissue/repress: Hyperborea. Info in booklet: Recorded August '83 in Berlin.
Tangerine Dream set the stage for the style of "artsy" soundtrack music that dominated the '80s. Although Hyperborea is not a soundtrack, it was clearly influential on some of the work the group was hired to do for Risky Business, Flashpoint, Dreamscape, Firestarter, Legend, and close to 20 others. There have been at least a dozen members in this trio over the years, but the assembly of Chris Franke, Edgar Froese, and Johannes Schmoelling proved to be one of the most prolific and influential.
Tangerine Dream -Hyperborea JAPAN LP with OBI VINYL. Tangerine dream "Hyperborea" CD new+. Tangerine Dream Hyperborea LP Virgin V2292 EX/EX 1983 Hyperborea. Tangerine Dream's last release on the Virgin record label and a good one at that. This is a real slow burner of an album. The first time I heard it I was underwhelmed but the subtle ideas come through after a few listens. The first peice 'No Mans Land' is very hypnotic with minimal structure. Next up 'Hyperborea'.
Band Name Tangerine Dream. Album Name Hyperborea. Labels Virgin Records. Members owning this album10. Re-Issue on CD in 2010 by Purple Pyramid with new cover.
Hyperborea (1983) would prove to be the last Tangerine Dream album released on the Virgin Records label, and the mood throughout is contemplative; even reflective at times. I have to say that this is a fine album and along with Tangram (1980) is certainly one of the better albums released by Tangerine Dream during the 1980s.
