B. King (b. September 16, 1925 in Itta Bena, Mississippi; died May 14, 2015 in Las Vegas) was a . blues guitarist and songwriter. He is among the most respected electric guitarists; Rolling Stone magazine ranked him third in its list of the hundred greatest guitarists of all time. Born as Riley B. King, he began broadcasting his music live on a Memphis radio station called WDIA. At first, he used the name The Peptikon Boy on air, which later was changed to The Beale Street Blues Boy, and then further shortened to just Blues Boy or .

Featuring brassy arrangements by Johnny Pate (who also worked with many prominent Chicago soul acts during the '60s), it presents King's sound at its fullest without sacrificing any of his grit or sophisticated swing. No famous classics here, but the material is very strong throughout.

This release presents a newly remastered reissue of one of the lesser-known albums by the King of the Blues: Blues on Top of Blues. This masterpiece doesn't contain better known stuff, but is nevertheless a solid late ‘60s set. Featuring brassy arrangements by Johnny Pate (who also worked with many prominent Chicago soul acts during the ‘60s, such as Curtis Mayfield and Bobby Bland), it presents King’s sound at its best. The album reached a peak position of on Billboard's R&B Albums chart. This isn't his most well-known stuff, but it's a very solid late '60s set.
