Peter Eardley Sarstedt (10 December 1941 – 8 January 2017), briefly billed early in his career as Peter Lincoln, was a British singer-songwriter and instrumentalist. He was the brother of musicians Eden Kane and Clive "Robin" Sarstedt. Although his music was classified as pop, it generally encompassed ballads derived from traditional folk music rather than traditional rock and roll.

Artist: Peter Sarstedt ( Peter Eardley Sarstedt) Advertisements. With the green traffic light. On the wet shiny street. Are looking like spilled crème de menthe. She stood framed by the night. Outside the blazing casino. And there stood I, the complete antihero. There stood I, brilliantly alone.
This song is by Peter Sarstedt and appears on the compilation album The Very Best of Peter Sarstedt (1986). With the green traffic lightOn the wet shiny streetHair looking like spilled crème de mentheShe stood framed by the nightA statue in white outside the blazing casino. And there stood I the complete anti heroThere stood I brilliantly alone. In Beirut that night gun shots cracked the heatFrom Dan to Beshebaar with the passions running highMany men willing to dieNow ran across the Middle East.
Peter Sarstedt's debut album was torpedoed by its best track, the number one hit "Where Do You Go To (My Lovely)," an exquisite piece of Baroque pop that Sarstedt would never come close to equaling again. Led by a festive accordion and a dark acoustic guitar, the song blended the reserve of early British singer/songwriter with the sophistication of Continental pop - name-checking everyone from Marlene Dietrich to Sasha Distel and the Boulevard Saint Michel.

If you don't know Peter Sarstedt or his songs this is a good album to purchase. Covers a lot of his best known songs and the recordings are clear. My reasons were good memories of one particular song but I enjoyed the whole album. I don't think his songs can really age as most are about the human condition, in any time.
