Skeeter, written by Evin & Connie St. John. Connie St John was a teacher in our elementary school PS 76, Bronx NY. She was extremely talented and her class plays were viewed by the entire school. When this record came out it was a big event.

I was a student at the school from 1958 through 1966 and she was there when I left. I never had her as a teacher, but she was most noted by everyone in the school for her class plays. Every year all classes got to watch, as they were top notch productions. She got kids to do the impossible with stage work. We all knew the song "Skeeter" and we knew she wrote other songs, but I didn't know any titles until I saw your poparchives site. I also had no idea she was "Brill" though I should have figured that out from the Skeeter record, which I have. The only other things I can tell you is she was tall (but I was a kid, so....) think, African American, pretty, and tough as a teacher, but effective. She was one of the younger teachers, if that helps in tracking her down.

I was excited to find your comment about Connie St John as i was trying to research her life and career without much luck. A song Connie St John wrote called "Breaking Point" was recorded in Australia by The Chantinos in 1966. (I believe the original US version was by Pat Powdrill on Reprise.) I have written about this at my Aussie music history site poparchives.com.au/2655/the-chantinos/breaking-point Any other details or clues you can add would be much appreciated. I have seen her referred to (once) as "Dr Connie St John" and I found a passing reference to a school principal called Connie St John but have no idea whether that is the same person. Another site I found (using your clues) said that she had studied at The Juilliard School, which makes sense. Thanks and all the best from down here Down Under.
