Sweet Tea is the 11th studio album by American blues artist Buddy Guy, released in 2001 on Silvertone/Jive label. It was nominated for 2001 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Buddy Guy - vocals, guitar. Additional musicians and production. Davey Faragher - bass. Dennis Herring - producer, mixing. Craig Krampf - percussion. James "Jimbo" Mathus - guitar. Doug Sax - mastering. Chris Shepard - engineer, mixing on "I Gotta Try You Girl".

So, after a bit of a break, Guy returned in 2001 with Sweet Tea, an utter anomaly in his catalog. Recorded at the studio of the same name in deep Mississippi, this is a bold attempt to make a raw, pure blues album - little reliance on familiar covers or bands, no crossover material, lots of extended jamming and spare production. That's not to say that it's without its gimmicks. In a sense, the very idea behind this record is a little gimmicky - let's get Buddy back to the basics - even if it's a welcome one, but that's not the problem.

To record his intrepid new Silvertone/Jive Records album "Sweet Tea," due May 15, bluesman Buddy Guy says, "They sent me down to Mississippi and said, 'Buddy, get on top of this!'" What 1993 Billboard Century Award honoree Guy got on top of at producer Dennis Herring's Sweet Tea studio in Oxford, Miss. was the elemental, hypnotic blues style of the North Mississippi hill country - a quantum leap, formally speaking, from the brawling Chicago blues that the Louisiana-born guitar wizard has played since he began his Windy City career in 1957
