Devotion is the second studio album by American dream pop duo Beach House. It was released on February 26, 2008, by Carpark Records. Written in the early months of 2007, it was recorded at Lord Baltimore Recording Studio within two months.

With Devotion, Beach House prove once again that they're one of the more strangely named bands around. Their music is so lonely, so haunting, that the only beach house it evokes is a deserted one, stranded on a winter night so desolate that summer isn't even a memory. Then again, that atmosphere is precisely what made Beach House's self-titled debut so striking, and Devotion is even more so, since Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally bring more focus, depth, and warmth to their unmistakable sound.

Beach House’s revamped sound may disappoint shoegazers upon first listen, but the band’s newfound command of melody, fuller instrumentation, and excellent pacing make Devotion a better record altogether.

Beach House is a dream pop duo from Baltimore, Maryland (USA), formed in 2004. The band consists of French-born Victoria Legrand, who's the niece of Michel Legrand and Christiane Legrand, and Baltimore native Alex Scally. I experienced some noice all trough track A2 "You Came To Me". Other people that experinced that?
Brariel
Bought a sealed copy from a Discogs seller and the second disc has a defect that bounces my tone arm into the air. UGH! First experience with VMP is not a pleasant one.

Just checked and this is now sold out in the Vinyl Me Please store.

See that some people had some issues. My copy is very nice, but I also always vacuum clean new records.

This KILLS the original press. Everything is better. EVERYTHING. Packaging (Inner and outer sleeves), dynamics and clarity, no distortions, almost no surface noise, wider soundstage. This is my favourite Beach House LP, and this is what it deserved. I was sceptical of the splatter vinyl, and I would've preferred black vinyl, but this still sounds exceptional!!

Third time is a charm. They sent me a third replacement (supposedly a repress) and the horrible, errant distortion on the end of side C is finally gone. There are a few pops and crackles in its place but I can live with it. Finally, an enjoyable copy of one of my favorite albums!
Aiata
Nothing to complain about here. Got into Beach House with VMP, man I love it. As usual with them, great pressing, almost no noise, good dynamic range... And this packaging is gorgeous too !
one life
Ya VMP got me into Beach House tooI agree the pressing and the cover is reallygood
Bloodray
Have the people who complain about sound quality clean their records? cleaned mine as soon as i got it and it sounds beautiful to me
Fenrikasa
I cleaned mine first and it sounds great as well.
LivingCross
Got my VMP copy today and from the get go record one had a hair size crack on track 1 which made some really loud pops and skips. Besides that there's a lot of surface noise on all sides except the last one. Will hopefully get a replacement soon.
Bedy
Got my replacement copy and it's super quiet and dynamic. Excellent pressing!
DireRaven
My copy has a side B sticker on both sides of the first LP anyone have this ?
DART-SKRIMER
Yes, unfortunately. And my Side C skips one the first track.
Brakora
One of my favorite albums. The first disc is Gorgeous! It’s absolutely perfect! But the second - Yikes. C starts out well but halfway through “Astronaut” I get a crazy amount of noise and crackle. It’s incredibly loud and totally audible over the climax of the song, destroying its power and impact.Side D is fine. A few pops here and there. Basically “normal” for any modern LP but not for something billed as such a audiophile experience.Anyone else getting this? I’m waiting to hear back from VMP.
Mori
I hear you. My issue is that this was touted as the "definitive" edition of this album and it's their Record of the Month. It's literally the reason people pay for this service. They're really going to have to REPRESS this completely, or I'm out. These problems are totally unacceptable.
Qiahmagha
Yeah, I got my second copy and it has the same issues at the end of Side C. With that said, even if it had that issue resolved, there is a catastrophic scratch (like deep in the vinyl) spread out over the intro to Side C. My first copy (with only the end of Side C having some noise) is superior. I'm not going to bother VMP about another copy. Anyway, this isn't one of my top albums so I can live with it.
Iseared
I got my second copy from VMP and same issues. Horrible, pulsing ripping distortion at the end of C, and other minor noises throughout. We just can't win, folks.
Throw her heart
It's sides A and C for me. Cleaned it on the VPI and even swap the stylus and it's exactly the same. I have an email to see about a replacement for this issue, it's been a while since I had to ask for one.
Wel
It's side A for me, on "Gila" in particular: super noisy/distracting throughout. You can hear the noise isolated for a moment when the side ends but before the needle hits the dead wax.
Opilar
I cleaned it too with an Okki Nokki. It’s not pops or crackles or static. It’s something in the pressing. The VMP forum for this release shows good amount of people w problems (some on all sides).
Goll
Interesting, I cleaned it first and I haven't heard a single pop.
MARK BEN FORD
Yup, same exact issue here. Thought it was just my copy. Everything aside from Side C sounds great though.
Punind
Yup, same issue here, and I don't think cleaning will help much. I don't know what it is, but this recording has always been problematic on wax. Even the Bella Union blue edition had some problems.
Morad
Me too. I will say, VMP has consistently awesome customer service.
Nicanagy
They're sending me another copy. Definitely message them at [email protected] Let's hooooope the next one is quiet as can be. Fingers crossed.
Olelifan
Exact same thing. Exact same place. Exact same boat. I emailed them a video so they can hear.
Gabar
Sounds and looks amazing! Very impressed with the packaging/ quality
Dark_Sun
Will update how it sounds when i get the album..
Groll
if it's anything like their other releases...it probably sounds amazing...especially considering it is half-speed mastered.
Ausstan
Sounds amazing to me! The vinyl is absolutely GORGEOUS! Love it
