The Politics of Dancing is the debut album by British band Re-Flex, recorded in late 1982 and released in 1983 through EMI, and was, until September 2010, their only officially released studio album. The album itself received moderate success, charting at in New Zealand, in the United States, and in West Germany, but the title track was a big international success and became the band's signature song, causing some to label them a one-hit wonder

Re-Flex is one of a handful of bands from the '80s I still listen to regularly, and I own a collection of their material on both CD and vinyl. So, while it's unfortunate no further albums from Re-Flex were officially released at the time (EPs excluded and, yes, there are bootleg copies of Humanification floating around the Internet), Paul Fishman et al have finally released a complete remastering of the entire Re-Flex catalog

Even with the admirable breadth, though, the album is mostly a bland array of robotic bass and drums, effects-riddled guitars, and annoying keyboard accents. Approach with tongue firmly in cheek.

The Politics of Dancing by Re-Flex hit on the Billboard Top 40 in 1984, making Re-Flex one-hit wonders. Originally released in 1983, The Politics of Dancing was the title track to the debut album by Re-Flex. A great little pop song, it entered the charts in 1984 and reached on the Billboard Top 40 and in the United Kingdom. True to 1980s new wave form, the extended remix was an even bigger hit, becoming a smash in dance clubs and the first 12-inch single by a British band to top the American dance charts. Re-Flex toured and even opened shows for The Police at the peak of the former band’s fame. But long-term success proved elusive and Re-Flex became a one-hit wonder footnote
