He never really answers the question, but long the way he is always entertaining and occasionally insightful. The book is marred, however, by O'Rourke's inability (or unwillingness) to refrain from periodic gratuitous swipes at anyone and everyone who is, or was, left of center on the political spectrum
Economics is a required subject in New York State and students enroll in the course as juniors or seniors. My junior classes were typical of classes at Bronx Science-extremely diverse. Although The Bronx High School of Science is a specialized and selective school (students take an examination for admission), our student body represents all of the racial, religious, and ethnic groups that constitute the "beautiful mosaic" that is New York City. In the final evaluation, students are asked whether they are rich or are likely to become rich in the near future. They are asked to analyze the opportunity factors, investment decisions, and external factors that contributed to their ability or inability to become rich. Class discussions further elucidate the issue as students discuss their jobs, budgets, and investment decisions.
