Nothing is the fourth album by Swedish metal band Meshuggah, originally released in 2002. The album entered the Billboard 200 chart at number 165, slightly higher than the band's following effort, Catch Thirtythree. A last-minute decision to join 2002's Ozzfest tour forced the band to mix the album in two days and to master it in one. As a result, the album had its guitars and drums re-recorded for a remastered re-release in 2006.

Since its 2002 album Nothing, Meshuggah has switched from seven-string to downtuned eight-string guitars. Meshuggah has become known for their innovative musical style, complex, polymetered song structures and polyrhythms. After replacing drummer Niklas Lundgren with Tomas Haake in 1990, Meshuggah signed a contract with German heavy metal record label Nuclear Blast and recorded its debut full-length album, Contradictions Collapse. The LP, originally entitled (All this because of) Greed, was released on January 1, 1991.

Some of the songs are longer than the originals. The second disc contains live & official videos. Catalog number for the DVD is NB 1760-5. Manufactured in Germany.

Sure, Meshuggah's 2002 release, Nothing, doesn't redefine artistic parameters- this band is not about innovation. Sweden's seminal metal amalgam has remained true to their ideology since forming in 1987, churning out beefy, intricate hard rock songs with off-kilter tempos, ample polyrhythms, and caustic vocals.

Experimental Metal Meshuggah.

It’s for this reason one can say that Meshuggah’s 2002 release Nothing is the biggest landmark in their 20+ year career and is the album which put them on the map through the constant, unrelenting emphasis on heavy rhythm sections. The chaotic and sporadic nature of their previous full lengths and EPs catered toward a narrower, more thrash loving audience.

MESHUGGAH accepted, and the race was on to complete the new album. After pushing the limits of heaviness with Chaosphere, there was only one place left to go: even heavier. Proudly cold and emotionless, this concept album without a concept with seemingly ess vocals had the feel of a philosophical journey through life and death, not excluding the soul-gutting ponderations. Again, the praise was incessant.

Nothing - (nada en inglés) puede referirse a: Nothing, álbum de la banda sueca Meshuggah. Nothing, película dirigida por Vincenzo Natali.

Rare
this should be added as an additional record to the US release of the box set which now would consist of all records so far PLUS this one...
Dynen
still very stupid to see this release here as a standalone. people are selling this?!?! ...pft.
Froststalker
No, it shouldn't. Reasons being RSG §1.1.3 and RSG §1.1.4 plus here's an example in action: Neurosis - Sovereign. Also, Nik's ruling. It's an old thread but the reasons are just as valid now as they were then.
Tejora
The boxset had a misprinted label but they sent them out anyways and then sent a replacement, I think thats what this is supposed to be.
Minnai
This shouldn't be here. It's just a replacement for the one on the box set.
Onath
Unsure whether this should be in the 'Nothing' or box set master release. Thoughts?
Connorise
My copy has no slipcase and holographic picture. Bought direct from Nuclear Blast online shop.
JoJoshura
Worst Vinyl-Reissue i've ever seen. I sold it after buying, because its definitely not coming up with the bands reputation.
Manris
The sound is very compressed, that's true. Most likely a CD-rip.
Cogelv
Are you speaking in terms of sound or what?
Ustamya
Should have been on 2xLP's

A great compliment to the 2002 release of "Nothing" for any Meshuggah fan. The biggest disappointment from the start was the use of programmed drums (Drumkit From Hell). Lest we not forget that it IS a remix. Even though Tomas Haake did the drum programming on this remix, it's still not the same as the "acoustic" feel of the original recording. This release is well worth a purchase for any fan who has not had the luxury of experiencing them live. The live videos are an excellent depiction of the intensity and power a live show that is put on by Meshuggah.
Matty
He didn't program besides the cymbals. The original drum recordings were used to trigger the samples. And the only reason the cymbals were programmed is because you can't get decent triggering from the overhead mics. Your post is very misleading.
