There's little arguing that the music on Passions of a Man is seminal, ranking among his very best recordings. The question is whether the six-disc set is indispensable, considering that it is low on unreleased material and boasts one full interview disc.

Piano, Vocals – Charles Mingus (tracks: C1 to C3). Producer – Ilhan Mimaroglu, Nesuhi Ertegun. 1979Atlantic Recording Corporation A1 to A2 recorded 30 January 1956. A3, B1, C4, D1 recorded 12 March 1957. B2 to B3 recorded 4 February 1959.

Pithecanthropus Erectus is a 1956 album by jazz composer and bassist Charles Mingus. Mingus noted that this was the first album where he taught arrangements to his musicians by ear in lieu of putting the chords and arrangements in writing

Charles Mingus's Atlantic recordings represent the first full realization of his immensely original talent, pressing the boundaries to create an ever more fluent, expressive music. The set highlights the appearance of sidemen who could participate fully in Mingus's visionary work, including trombonist Jimmy Knepper and drummer Dannie Richmond. The multi-reed player Eric Dolphy was unquestionably his greatest collaborator. 5. Hog Calling Blues. 6. Oh Lord Don't Let Them Drop That Atomic Bomb on Me (Alternate Version). 7. Passions of a Man. 8. Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am.
