Just What I Needed: The Cars Anthology is a two-disc, career-spanning compilation album of songs by the American new wave rock band the Cars. It features most of the band's singles, as well as many album tracks, non-album B-sides and unreleased songs. Whereas the 1985 Greatest Hits album contained the band's most popular hit singles, Just What I Needed includes an album's worth of rarities and unreleased tracks, in addition to deeper album tracks and the requisite hits.

Just What I Needed was the first big hit from the Boston-based band. Sung by their bass player Benjamin Orr, the track established their heavy pop/new wave style. The track was from their self-titled debut album, which established their new wave style. Though it’s a description for many of the successful late 70s bands, The Cars is considered one of the best from that cohort, as its two-year stint on the Billboard charts can attest. Elmer H from Westville, OkYes "Just What I Needed" by The Cars got New Wave really noticed back in The Eighties. I like the fountains of wayne vs the cars version-orr can't be bear-R. Dave from Boston, MaBest song on the debute album is the last one - All Mixed Up. It has perfect melody and flow. I alway wondered who in the band took turns to sing the verse "It's all mixed up" x3 near the end of the song. I'm pretty sure it was Ben and Rick but there was a 3rd person - just not sure if it was Greg, Elliot or Dave? Pat from St. Paul, MnI can't believe "Good Times Roll" and "My Best Friend's Girl" are not on Songfacts

I don't mind you hangin' out and talkin' in your sleep It doesn't matter where you've been as long as it was deep, yeah You always knew to wear it well and, you look so fancy I can tell I don't mind you hangin' out and talkin' in your sleep. I guess you're just what I needed (Just what I needed) I needed someone to feed I guess you're just what I needed (Just what I needed) I needed someone to bleed
