Interested in music from an early age, at Ohio State University while majoring in electrical engineering Hunt switched from banjo to trombone. With Jean Goldkette And His Orchestra in 1928, and a member & featured trombonist of The Casa Loma Orchestra in 1928. Leaving them in 1943 to work as a Hollywood radio disc jockey before joining the Merchant Marine near the end of World War II. Upon his return to the West Coast in 1946, his successes include 1948's 3 miliion seller "Twelfth Street Rag".

Pee Wee Hunt (b. May 10, 1907 – d. June 22, 1979 in Plymouth, Massachusetts) was a jazz trombonist, vocalist and band leader. Born Walter Gerhardt Hunt in Mt. Healthy, Ohio, Pee Wee developed an early musical interest since his mother played the banjo and his father played violin. The teenage Hunt was a banjoist with a local band while he was attending college at Ohio State, and during his college years he switched from banjo to trombone. He joined Jean Goldkette's Orchestra in 1928.
Compilation album with twelve of the best hits of the trombonist, vocalist and band director Walter Gerhardt Hunt (Ohio, 1907-1979), aka 'Pee Wee' Hunt. At 17 he was already playing the banjo in local bands, but later changed it to the trombone. In 1929 he joined the musician Glen Gray in Detroit and founded the band that later became the renowned Casa Loma Orchestra, with whom he spent 14 years. After World War II he returned to the music scene by creating his own band, specializing in diixieland.
