His Hero Is Gone (often abbreviated HHIG) was an influential crust punk and sludge metal band from Memphis, Tennessee. Formed in 1995 from members of Copout, Man With Guns Lives Here and FaceDown. They disbanded in 1999, playing their last show in Memphis. extensively several times, as well as Europe and Japan.
While His Hero Is Gone simply repeated the production approach taken with the first 7" and 15 Counts of Arson, the end result is a masterpiece: a tight, cohesive, thought provoking call for change from street level. Like 15 counts of Arson, Monuments to Thieves was recorded at Polymorph in Oakland, CA, by Dan Rathburn. While the musical approach is the same - a driving crusty punk approach similar to Damad - the songwriting and confidence displayed on this recording are completely irrefutable.
However, this version includes a double-sided insert rather than an inner sleeve, but with the same imagery. On the side where the band members' names are listed, this version removes the "New band address" line. PRANK 016. His Hero Is Gone. Monuments To Thieves (12", Album).

That was until 1997 with His Hero is Gone's Monuments to Thieves. To stress how important this release is to say that it managed to find balance within the seething cauldron of hate that formed this genre. D-beat is notoriously linear in its structure, the signature drum beat becoming a limiting factor upon the other instruments. The linearity forces d-beat bands into one of two places; sheer, hammering aggression like Disfear or the brutal shock tactics of Discharge and Skitsystem. Many bands owe His Hero is Gone a great debt. Cursed's entire sound has a basis within His Hero is Gone's work and Disfear have taken riffs and song structures from this for their Live the Storm album. Suffice to say, this is not the end of their influence and probably never will be. This band will continue to be remembered in the future and Monuments to Thieves will be a testament to that legacy.
