Modus Vivendi (2003) by Tad Morose. Labels: Century Media Records. Genres: Progressive Power Metal Members: Urban Breed, Christer "Krunt" Andersson, Daniel Olsson, Anders Modd, Peter Moren.
Modus Vivendi takes the eldritch atmospherics of Undead and blends them with the catchy hooks and straight-up power of Matters of the Dark. But what makes this album work, and what makes it a worthy entry in Tad Morose’s discography, is that it has emotional weight behind it, to an even greater degree than its predecessor. Anubis’ exemplifies a lot of this weight. It paces itself out, mostly at a middling tempo.
Additionally, Modus Vivendi also packs three illuminating cover versions as fan-pleasing bonus tracks. These naturally showcase Tad Morose paying affectionate tribute to their heroes, and include renditions of Uriah Heep's "Rainbow Demon," Accept's "Losing More Than You've Ever Had," and - perhaps worth sitting down for - ABBA's "Knowing Me, Knowing Yo.
Their 2003 album, Modus Vivendi, showcases their talents very well, and IMO, is a forgotten classic. One of the most powerful aspects of Modus Vivendi is Urban Breed's vocals. Urban Breed is one of the most talented vocalists in power metal, and puts forth a great deal of effort in Modus Vivendi. He sings with the right amount of emotion and strength which is very effective in upgrading the band's sound. But as it is, Tad Morose's Modus Vivendi is a classic power metal album. It's a refreshing escape from the more symphonic, fantasy orientated side of power metal and is a load of fun to listen to. I would definitely recommend this album to any metal fan, whether you enjoy power metal or not. Recommended Tracks (You couldn't go wrong with any of them, but for the stake of having a list): Mother Shipton's Words Clearly Insane Anubis.
