Gerry and the Pacemakers. David Farrell/Redferns. Long before Frankie came into his life, Gerry Marsden was very well off. He received healthy royalty checks for his old hits with Gerry and the Pacemakers, and he was on the road nine months out of every twelve, doing lucrative cabaret gigs and nostalgia rock shows in Europe, North America and Australia. I won’t let anyone say a bad word about Frankie, Marsden says, cackling in his distinctive Liverpudlian accent. He first learned about the cover of Ferry Cross the Mersey from his nineteen-year-old daughter, Yvette, who heard it in a disco. Marsden also has real-estate investments in England and Spain and owns a Liverpool radio station.
I Like It" is the second single by Liverpudlian band Gerry and the Pacemakers. Like Gerry Marsden's first number one, it was written by Mitch Murray. The song reached number one in the UK Singles Chart on 20 June 1963, where it stayed for four weeks. It reached No. 17 in the American charts in 1964. In 1978, The Rezillos did a punk cover version on their debut album Can't Stand The Rezillos. In 1980, Depeche Mode had it in their early live set.
