Phoenix debut album "United" (2000) is a pretty diverse album, a real gem in their catalog. The band found commercial success with "Wolfgang Amadeus Phonix" and "Bankrupt", but some of the band's best stuff is found on "United". Tracks like "If I ever feel better" and "Funky Squaredance" rival any tunes they've ever made. The album is fantastic, it's really nice to rock the entire thing in one sitting (I hope people still do that). It takes the listener on a journey across a ton of music styles and textures.
United (Phoenix album). United is the debut studio album by French indie pop band Phoenix, released in 2000. Singles released from the album include "Too Young", "If I Ever Feel Better" and "Party Time"
Genre: Alternative Rock. Although it's not great on a whole, United is responsible for Too Young and If I Ever Feel Better, so it gets a pass. 100. Disco perfecto donde se lo mire. Imaginen el contexto, 1999, Francia, Daft Punk, Air en el mismo ambiente. Combinar el sonido de esa corriente francesa de música excelente y darle un toque propio, no era nada fácil.
On their debut album for Astralwerks/Source, Phoenix applies a slick electronica aesthetic to traditional pop/rock songwriting, resulting in a quite adventurous album capable of re-organizing perceptions about 1980s-style verse-chorus-verse guitar pop. Of course, the fact that the group members come from France gives them the necessary perspective on commercial American pop/rock from the past.
Album · 2000 · 10 Songs. Lean, ebullient, and sparky, the debut from French quartet Phoenix stylishly transported the cool of New York’s early-Noughties rock revival to Paris. Yes, there are intriguing sonic detours-distorted electro medley Funky Squaredance, say-but United’s peaks cleave to a formula of garage-forged urgency. Party Time brings thrashy riffs to the soiree and Too Young (propelled by frontman Thomas Mars’ tumbling English lyrics) still deserves its spot at the indie anthem top table.

Made in EU.
The original pressing comes in two sleeve variations: Initial copies came in an "American style" oversize heavy cardboard sleeve. Subsequently the record was packed in a regular sleeve made of textured cardboard (this entry). According to information from the band itself, the record company or distributer panicked that record shops wouldn't be able to rack the oversized sleeves and thus withdrew them. The exact figures are not known.
Includes a printed inner sleeve showing photos, titles & credits.
There is also a mispress of this release, featuring side A on both sides.
The record was rereleased on vinyl in 2015 in Europe and in the US.
