Hitch is the third studio album by the Welsh alternative rock band the Joy Formidable. The album was released on 25 March 2016 by the C'mon Let's Drift label in the UK, and Caroline Records in the US. In comparison to the band's prior album, Wolf's Law, which was mainly written on the road while touring, Hitch was recorded in lead singer Ritzy Bryan's old family home, outside Mold in Wales. A music video for the single "The Last Thing on My Mind" was released on 26 January 2016.

Album · 2011 · 12 Songs. The Joy Formidable’s mini-LP of 2010 (A Balloon Called Moaning) hinted at the Welsh group’s capacity for live shows that could singe the hair off your arms. It was alluring enough for major labels to come calling, and after signing with Atlantic, the band pulled four of the strongest tunes from that release and combined them with a handful of shiny new tracks for their official . This tiny trio makes music befitting the release’s title, with walls of guitars and sweeping crescendos that sound like a band twice as large.

The Big Roar sounds massive, improbably huge for a three-piece fronted by the adorable Ritzy Bryan, in her white bob and doll dresses. Bryan coaxes gargantuan blasts from her guitar-waterfall rumbles, rocket exhausts and skin-pimpling windstorms. Meanwhile, Matt Thomas tries to punch a hole in his toms and snares. With a sweet and awestruck voice, Bryan sings as if she’s standing atop a cliff, thrilled to be alive. Like few other bands kicking around, the Joy Formidable can make me feel the same.

One of these unfortunate bands are Welsh three-piece The Joy Formidable, who have generated a virtually constant buzz ever since they formed in 2007, having released a handful of singles and an excellent mini-album, A Balloon Called Moaning. Within the UK, they have been labeled as indie rock’s new great hopes by the NME among others, but sadly they hype seems to have fizzled out and been passed on to fresher faces such as The Vaccines and – god forbid – Brother. Listening to The Big Roar, it’s easy to see why they garnered so much early attention. While not especially innovative or experimental, the band’s sound is a hugely effective mash up of UK indie such as The Subways and Blood Red Shoes and shoegaze, with a few elements of American grunge thrown in for good measure.
