Felix Mendelssohn depicted the character in his concert overture The Fair Melusine (Zum Märchen von der Schönen Melusine), opus 32. Marcel Proust's main character compares Gilberte to Melusine in Within a Budding Grove. She is also compared on several occasions to the Duchesse de Guermantes who was (according to the Duc de Guermantes) directly descended from the Lusignan dynasty. Kurt Heasley of the US band Lilys wrote a song titled "Melusina" for the 2003 album Precollection. French singer Nolwenn Leroy recorded a song titled "Mélusine" on her album Histoires Naturelles in 2005. The gothic metal band Leaves' Eyes released a song and EP titled "Melusine" in April 2011.

Felix Mendelssohn – grandson of an eminent Jewish philosopher and son of a wealthy banker who converted to Christianity – came from a happy and privileged background. From the age of 11 he composed fluently and prolifically: a huge quantity of piano and chamber music, five concertos, a few little operas and a dozen symphonies for strings preceded his official Symphony No. 1 of 1824. Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Orchestra in D minor.
Mendelssohn’s First Concerto was written fourteen years before the Schumann, when the composer was all of twenty-two years old. So it is a young man’s work, full of energy and brio, and unlike Schumann, Mendelssohn’s aim was to emulate the virtuoso piano concertos of the day such as those by Weber or Moscheles. Mendelssohn wrote it for sixteen-year-old Munich pianist Delphine von Schauroth, with whom he seems to have been infatuated. In the concertos, the piano, beautifully reproduced, is placed in a realistic relation to the orchestra. Both are recorded with great fidelity and impact, making this a thoroughly satisfying listening experience.
