With 1971's Fragile having left Yes poised quivering on the brink of what friend and foe acknowledged was the peak of the band's achievement, Close to the Edge was never going to be an easy album to make. Drummer Bill Bruford was already shifting restlessly against Jon Anderson 's increasingly mystic/mystifying lyricism, while contemporary reports of the recording sessions depicted bandmate Rick Wakeman, too, as little more than an observer to the vast tapestry that Anderson, Steve Howe, and Chris Squire were creating.

Without 'Close to the Edge' to refer to, most of the genre's laziest opponents would still be voicing shrill indifference at the output of those it inspired as that befitting hippy classical wank bashed out on electronic gizmos. Like most successful artistic phenomena, its visibility in terms of marketing, sales and exposure has conspired for consumer sovereignty to deign this album as being representative of an entire genre. Where 'Close to the Edge' becomes unique is that it does not exploit any of the structural tricks and compositional conceits used by its contemporaries. Where Emerson would assimilate classical sources and themes into his own creations and Genesis would segue shorter song and instrumental fragments into a pseudo suite, 'Yes' dispense with either approach entirely.

Close To The Edge ‎(Cass, Album).

The band's crowning achievement, Close to the Edge, contains only three lengthy "songs," but each one is an absolute epic. The title track dominates all of side one of the original LP, rushing in with a burbling, dissonant intro, Howe's jagged riffing and Wakeman's fluttering fingers building a dense, overpowering texture. After an extended hiatus following Relayer, Yes regrouped for 1977's Going for the One, bringing grand old ham Wakeman back to record an album of much fewer pretensions than anything they'd done since Fragile. Of course, that really meant only one 15-minute epic instead of four, but right down to the non-Roger Dean cover art, it signaled a new start for Yes.

Welcome To The Edge is an album by Billie Hughes. The title track, "Welcome To The Edge", also known by the Japanese song title "Todokanu Omoi", is the hit single from the album and became the International Single of the Year in Japan in 1992. All the songs are written by Billie Hughes and Roxanne Seeman with the exception of two songs with additional writers. Welcome To The Edge" was released by Pony Canyon in Japan in 1991.

This song was written by Yes lead singer Jon Anderson and guitarist Steve Howe. if you ever come across a tab/blotter of acid that is shaded like the album cover or your told that it is a tab taken from close to the edge, down by the corner of the sheet that will definitly "take away the plain in which you move and choose the course your ruling". the tab will make you go waaaaay up. at points then get down at others, thats the ways lsd trips pan out. if you were to chart how high you were on a graph it would go up and down through out the course of the trip. hence the lines "i get up, i get down"
