Usually, César Franck's most famous organ pieces can fit on two CDs, but the complete works occupy six discs in this trimline box set from Audite. This thorough survey covers such familiar masterworks as the Trois Chorals, the Trois Pièces, and the Six Pièces pour Grand Orgue, but it also includes the often overlooked 59 pieces in L'Organiste, Vol. 1, which were orignally composed for harmonium, as well as the posthumous harmonium pieces of L'Organiste, Vol. Offerings appearing on CD for the first time include the.
FRANZ LISZT ORGELWERKE, Vol 3. Martin Haselböck, organist. IV/114 Ladegast organ of Schwerin Cathedral, Germany (1868-71), renovated by Schuke (1982-88). NCA (New Classical Adventure) 60146215 (SACD). A complete listing of the repertoire may be found at the Web address above. The monumental Ladegast organ at Schwerin Cathedral was built nearly two decades after the builder's celebrated instrument at Merseberg Cathedral, for which Liszt wrote his B-A-C-H and Ad nos. It has a singularly memorable sound in the resplendent acoustic; the diapasons are warm and vigorous, the flutes round and telling, the reeds colorful, the tuttis steely and brilliant.
