July Flame is American singer-songwriter Laura Veirs' seventh studio album, released on January 12, 2010. The title comes from a type of peach Veirs saw at a farmer's market. Jim James of American rock band My Morning Jacket contributes falsetto harmonies on several tracks, including "Carol Kaye" which is a tribute to the so named bass guitarist.

Singer-songwriter Laura Veirs flirted with the mainstream with a major-label record contract, but in 2010, she’s back in the independent world, scaling back on her arrangements and allowing her folk roots to show through. Out of financial necessity she had to let her backing band go, but this new loneness is not so bad.

Album: July Flame (2010). Get the Sheet Music License This Song. This is the title track from American singer-songwriter Laura Veirs' seventh studio album. The inspiration for the song came from a type of peach Veirs saw on a summer visit to the farmer's market. She explained to The Portland Mercury: "I just saw it at the market and I was like, 'Oh, that's a cool name for a peach, I'll write a song about that.

Laura Veirs seventh album July Flame, which Colin Meloy of The Decemberists calls 'the best album of 2010', explores the emotion of mid-summer. Drenched in wood smoke, sunlight, pollinators, pastoral dales, fireworks and warm nights, her lyrics explore the dichotomy between one's desire for permanence and security and the realization that such things rarely exist.
